Tower Bells

In the bell chamber of St. Olaf’s Church there are three large bells. All of them were cast in the workshop of the local Tallinn master Johann Alexander Feldmann.

After the fire, a bell cast as a donation from the Brotherhood of the Blackheads was installed in the tower in 1838.

The second Feldmann bell was installed in the tower in 1846.

The third bell was cast by the master with a donation from Tsar Nicholas I by 1850.

Unfortunately, none of the medieval bells from St. Olaf’s Church have survived, as they were destroyed in fires. It is known that in the Middle Ages both chapels of the church had bells, but in 1525 the bells of the church chapels had to be handed over to the city council, as the city needed them to cast cannons.
